Down The Rotten Hill Again

I stood at the point where there was no fence.
It was a beautiful view of the sea beneath.
It was a scene worth the climb uphill.
But was my effort in vain?
For I have nowhere to go now
But down the rotten hill again!

I see the ships in the distance,
I see the sun rising high,
I see the seagulls soaring above,
I see life and I see the grandeur.
Yet my hindsight fails to see beyond
The walk down the rotten hill again!

I’ve given a lot,
It’s taken a lot,
To reach the top
We all know what comes after the zenith
It’s the god forsaken path
Down the rotten hill again!

Let me take time out now;
Pray the miserable thoughts not sink in.
Let me be alive this moment
And enjoy what I can of this god given splendor.
Yet misery will swell, knowing this moment will pass.
I will have to go down the rotten hill again!

To know you will go down
And may never come up again;
To know there will never be a better moment
But still living in hope;
Yes, it does takes courage
To walk down the rotten hill again!

Yet the mind persists,
Perhaps there is a climb once more.
The heart craves,
That the walk back up is more memorable.
And the soul hopes,
The scene is more beautiful than the one below!
