Happy Shopping

Shopping is fun when, after a hard fought bargain, you finally do end up getting something you desire. Even if you fail to get anything at all, it can still be a considered a very good pastime if you do it on a regular basis; at least you end up meeting some charming characters.

That was shopping as I recall. In a technologically shrinking world with an even faster shrinking affordability for the common man, we have come to trust quality and brand over honing our bargaining skills or developing an interest in meeting a new person.

Weather The Storm

I stood there in the porch
Waiting for the sun to come out;
Little did I know the storm was dense
That we were already blind in every sense.

Goodbye Nokia

My tryst with mobile phones began roughly six years ago when my mom got me a Nokia 3200, which at the time of it’s inception was a great mobile. I’ll say I was smitten by the technology bug soon after entering the fascinating world of handhelds.

Escape From Reality

In all effectiveness fear fuels hatred, lust beckons anguish, greed sows the seed of misery and jealousy douses the flame of love. If only we know what we do to ourselves through words said and unsaid, through actions done and withheld, then, perhaps there is more chance to free ourselves from unwonted ends, escape from unexpected twists of fate and maybe even find a better salvation to our otherwise miserable souls!

Oktoberfest 2008

I think the name spells Beer to millions of people around the world, but to a traditional Bavarian it is more of a way of having good fun (of course coupled with beer)!

Loans

A few years back loans were a strict no-no. Not the big ones, I even looked down upon borrowing money from friends. The concept of loans, as I saw it, was tainted. It might not be the way money lenders were projected in media. It has perhaps got everything to do with the way in which I was bought up. It was a part of individual principle etc.

When rest of my friends decided to have a good time to go on debit with local dhabawalas back in college, I wouldn’t have any of it. When my colleagues were having fun with their new found love (read credit cards) in the initial days with Infy, I abstained – yeah even CC was a strict no-no! When no one saw any harm in borrowing a rupee or two for tea, I was counting every penny I spent. Some people were okay with this, some detested me for this quality.

But then things started getting different, I don’t know if its the change in lifestyle or the style in which we wish to lead life; loans may sound illogical, given the EMI rates, but requisite nowadays. It may perhaps have something to do with the growing greed or urgency in some cases to get some piece of land before another grabs it; it may be the current lifestyle that is driving anyone and everyone to look for that getaway vacation.

Piracy and Some Silly Questions

When the Google search result for music downloads yielded me nothing more than a couple of Free Music Downloads (note: no legality clause included) in the first few results and the fact that there are more Google ads featuring such sites than you can ever imagine, I was left wondering if people have come to take music piracy or piracy in general for granted! However, not all free download sites are actually violating copyrights. Such music is mostly from independent artists who are looking to burn those download counters!

On the other hand, if you are really looking for legitimate music downloads of that recent Bollywood/ Kollywood flick that you loved so much you’ll have to shell some buck! It’s the only truth and that’s all there is to it! Now you may ask me questions like I’ve never done any such darn thing since the day I listened to my first song on PC or something like the websites that offer such music can in no way be treading on piracy! All I can say is please continue reading…

It is very intuitive of us humans to see to it that our HARD-EARNED money goes toward spending for something worthy/ unique and not toward something that is available FREE of cost and that too available in a ZILLION places! True; undeniable; rational but not necessary legal ALWAYS!

Work Life – Is it Really Balanced?

There was once this sailor who was shipwrecked and going the way of the wind on a small boat when he suddenly saw the broken pieces of his ship.

First there was a torn piece of cloth from the sail. He felt he should carry this – after all wasn’t he connected to the ship even after its demise?

Then came the rudder, he pulled it in too with great eager.

Attention: Boy Gone Missing

There used to be a time, in our school days, when there was this chirpy little things in us that used to surface out of nowhere whenever the teacher left out for a few minutes or no one was present to take control of the class.

This person used to find comfort in the fact that all the other guys/ girls were more or less the same and one could find the noise level in the room would increase subtly yet gradually, until the teacher in the next room came and quietened the class with his/ her stares or by just a mere daunts.

Coming To Age

Just when you think you are mature enough to handle the pressures of life, some incidents decide to show up, making you rethink your confidence levels. You don’t have to go places to meet such events; just a visit to the friendly neighborhood EB office will do.

Well my mom used to take care of such trivialities of life when I was busy conquering lands or killing enemy soldiers in my PC. She decided she had had enough of me lazing around and sent me sprinting… probably not exactly, if you don’t consider traveling in a super fast Chennai auto as one!
